Practical experience for students who are thinking about a career in any of the helping professions. This class would
involve working with IDEAL students and/or multi-handicapped students in one-on-one situations doing academic,
independent living, and Career & Technical activities under the direction of a teacher. You will be given training in
what to do before actually going into a class and working with students. You would need to be dependable, caring,
and patient. Good people skills are a necessity!

• Students will strengthen their oral communication skills as well as logic and reasoning skills through learning
and performing the speaking events developed through the National Forensics League. These public
speaking events include oral interpretation of poetry, humor, drama, and duet. Additionally, students learn
to debate issues in multiple debate formats, and deliver both extemporaneous and persuasive speeches.
• Students are invited, though NOT required, to compete with the Riverton High School Speech and debate
team during the spring season.
• This class is a great opportunity to develop strong public speaking skills.

are required in order to meet deadlines.

Introduction to Wildland Fires

• The course is designed for the pre-service student as well as entry-level personnel who have no previous
wildland firefighting experience. This course will train firefighters in basic wildland firefighting skills.
• Orient the student to fire behavior, weather patterns that affect fire behavior, construction of fire line,
suppression methods, map reading, and safety issues.
• Students will develop knowledge of wildland fire fighting techniques by learning about fire behavior, fire
weather, safety, firefighter preparedness, use of tools and equipment, firing devices, use of water,
suppression, securing the control line, use of maps, scouting, communicating, hazardous materials, and
standards for survival.
